Providenciales Island Activities and Turks And Caicos Watersports
Quite often not everyone in the family is a diver. Scuba Instruction is available for beginners at Dive Provo, and we also work closely with other water sports operators to help you arrange all kinds of other excursions.
Snorkeling — If you don’t dive then you absolutely must go snorkeling while in Provo. There are a couple of easy access areas for shore snorkeling and if you don’t have your own equipment then you can rent a full set of gear from Dive Provo for only $15.00 per day (24 hours.)
For better snorkeling take a boat trip. Dive Provo offers 2 dedicated snorkel trips. One is the Grace Bay excursion run generally in the afternoons. This trip takes about 3 hours from pick up to drop-off and we visit 2 sites out in Grace Bay inaccessible from shore. Each snorkel is about 45 minutes and the boat trip is a short 10 minute ride. See colourful corals and fans, tropical reef fish, turtles and often a nurse shark. Refreshments included. $55.00 Children ½ price.
South Side Snorkel Trip — For the seasoned snorkeler our South Side snorkel is a trip not to be missed. A fifty minute boat ride over the beautiful Caicos Banks will take you to barely visited reefs at West Caicos, Southwest Reef, French Cay or Molasses Reef. Each area is wild, lovely and quite remote and we choose the destination based on the wind direction that day, to give you the best experience. Marvel at the colours of the water where the Caicos Banks drop into the abyss of the Atlantic Ocean; swim with eagle rays and turtles, thousands of juvenile fish at West Caicos, remains of old wrecks at Molasses reef, and during the winter months look out for humpback whales migrating to mate on the Silver Banks. This trip is a long ½ day with pick up from your hotel at 8.30am, returning around 2pm. Refreshments and snacks are included. $95.00 Children ½ price.
If you prefer to spend longer exploring the southern reefs then we can arrange a private charter for you and family or friends. Cost is $1600.00 per day for up to 8 people. This includes snorkeling and if you wish a trip ashore at West Caicos to explore ruins or onto a deserted beach to relax and soak up the sun we can include this in your itinerary. Refreshments and full lunch included.
Dive Provo employs only scuba instructors who are all knowledgeable about the reefs and fish life. They are happy to show you fish and explain behavior and we also have the Paul Humann Reef Fish Identification books on the boats for you to look at.
Rental equipment is included in all snorkeling trips and we choose Kapitol Reef snorkels. These snorkels are completely dry helping nervous snorkelers feel more comfortable in the water and experienced snorkelers enjoy the additional freedom of being able to dive underwater with greater ease. If you have your own equipment we encourage you to use it but you may want to use the opportunity to try out the snorkels prior to purchasing one. We are pretty sure you’ll like them so we offer a 10% discount on Kapitol Reef snorkels if you have taken a snorkel trip with us.
Snuba — A step up from snorkeling after a 15 minute orientation to the equipment you take a guided tour of the reef underwater with surface supplied air. Suitable for children as young as 8 years. We can arrange this for you with Snuba TCI.
Freediving — Freediving is a sport related to scuba diving but altogether quite different. Freediving is breath hold diving, similar to snorkeling but requiring training and expertise to be able to enjoy the underwater environment on a single breath.
For some freediving is about being one with nature, enjoying the underwater world without the encumbrances of scuba equipment, being in the medium in as natural a state as possible. For others it is about increasing one’s fitness and being more aware of how the body works and how to use its full potential, and for others there is the element of competition; how deep can I go on one breath; how long can I stay down? Freediving, like scuba, requires training and Dive Provo works with Josie Smith of Freedive Turks and Caicos to offer you SSI and AIDA (Association for the International Development of Apnea) Freediving instruction.
Sailing and Windsurfing — We recommend Windsurfing Provo who offer the new Hobie WAVE Catamaran. The WAVE is high on performance while being extremely easy to sail. Onshore winds guarantee you won’t sail away into the sunset.
Sailing Excursions — The 52 foot sailing catamaran “Ariel” offers half day, full day, and sunset cruises. It’s your choice to sunbathe out front over the water in the trampolines, or chill in the shade with Captain Jay Stubbs. Beverages and snacks are included on all sails, just beware the rum punch!

Continue further to the east as far as Dellis Cay. You’re the captain. Marine VHF radio, cooler, life jackets, waterproof bag and nautical chart supplied. Explore at your own pace.
Kayaking — Enjoy a guided Kayak tour amongst the mangroves and learn about local flora and fauna.
Deep Sea, Bottom and Bone Fishing — On off-diving days, fish for Marlin, Sailfish, Barracuda, Wahoo, Tuna and Bonefish for a full or half day. The Deep Sea fishing package includes a 27ft boat, captain, all equipment and complimentary soft drinks. We recommend Silver Deep for fishing. For more information e-mail silver deep at silverdeep_dean@tciway.tc
Beach BBQ’s and Secluded Island Getaways – Take a guide to cater to you and prepare a beach BBQ as you explore deserted cays with beaches perfect for shelling, or arrange to be dropped off for the day on your own “private beach”; umbrella and cooler of food and drink included. There are numerous ½ day and full day excursions; something for everyone. Let our staff put together the perfect day for you and your family.
Explore some of the other islands and cays. Full day trips are available to both North and Middle Caicos and are well worth trying.
Semi-Submarine — For non-swimmers the semi-submarine offers a great way to view the reef. You sit 5ft beneath the waves and watch the undersea world unfold before your eyes while staying completely dry. This is a great excursion for all the family, young children to grandma.
Provo Golf Club — A Karl Litten Masterpiece- Providenciales not only boasts some of the world’s most spectacular beaches, but is home to one of the best golf courses in the Caribbean. Provo Golf Club is reminiscent of “Desert Style” course design with target areas and waste bunkers. It is a magnificent blend of lush greens and fairways and Provo’s rugged limestone outcroppings. The twelve acres of inland lakes and marsh areas are home to the many species of birds. It is common to see many herons and pink flamingos in the marsh areas as well as six different species of ducks. Litten has designed the course in a way that offers a larger green area if the approach shot is a long one while the shorter approaches will be to smaller greens tucked behind bunkers or mounds. The golf course is a great test for golfers of any caliber. The clubhouse offers an ideal place to relax, dine, or cool off with a tropical drink, while a fully-equipped pro shop caters to the needs of every golfer. Residential lots and townhouses are available for those interested in a home or vacation home in the Turks & Caicos.
Spas — There are numerous Spa services on the island with many resorts offering their own on-property spa. Conveniently located in Grace Bay are Spa Sanay, Spa Tropique and Captain Hooks European Hair and Beauty salon.
Bicycles — Some of the hotels have bicycles for guests use at no charge. Check with your hotel front desk.
Vehicle Rental — Cars and scooters are for rent with 4WD being a favorite. Drive on the left side of the road. A valid driver’s license in necessary. Grace Bay Car Rentals is the largest independently owned car rental company on the island with the most affordable rates. Located in the heart of Grace Bay a couple of minutes from the Dive Provo shop. Avis and Hertz are also located close to Dive Provo, along with Tropical Auto Rental and Provo Rent a Car.
Visit the Blue Hills area, one of the first native settlements on Provo and enjoy traditional island cuisine and relax with the locals.
Beachcombing — A deserted island might be the ultimate place for beachcombing, but Provo has an ample share of beaches around its perimeter. The 14 mile shoreline of Grace Bay is a feast for those whose bare feet hunger for a long or short walk in the off white sand or shallow water where sand meets the bay. Much of the close-in water is a clear emerald green over a rippled sand bottom.
A walker finds a smorgasbord of sights that vary with the time of day. Joggers in the morning, volleyball nets a little later, sun worshipers of all sizes, shapes and gender, children with colorful plastic buckets and shovels, windsurfers preparing boards and sails for their quick voyages, boats of divers leaving docks and you-name-it. The fortunate visitor leaves the back door of their hotel room and finds the beach waiting just steps away.
If beaches are for the romantic, Provo means romance.
